Brown Fused Alumina (BFA) Abrasive

Inquire Now

Brown fused alumina (BFA) abrasive is a synthetic material made by fusing bauxite, anthracite, and iron filings in an electric arc furnace. With a high aluminum oxide (Al2O3) content of 95-97%, it exhibits outstanding hardness, toughness, and thermal stability. BFA is available in a variety of grades and particle sizes, from coarse grains to micropowders, suitable for diverse industrial applications.

Our BFA abrasives are manufactured using both fixed furnace and tilting furnace methods, each offering specific performance characteristics—such as high toughness, low impurity levels, excellent self-sharpening ability, and chemical stability. These features make BFA ideal for bonded and coated abrasives, sandblasting, surface preparation, refractory materials, and anti-slip or wear-resistant surfaces.

We supply a comprehensive range of brown fused alumina abrasives, conforming to ISO, FEPA, ANSI, JIS, and GOST standards, and also provide customized specifications to meet unique customer needs.

What We Offer

Production Methods

We utilize both fixed furnace and tilting furnace smelting technologies to produce BFA, followed by advanced processing techniques to offer a full range of abrasive products:

Fixed Furnace Smelting

This method yields abrasives with large crystal structures, minimal glassy phase, and enhanced toughness. Key features include:

  • High purity and thermal stability
  • Uniform particle size and distribution
  • Excellent wear resistance and mechanical strength

These properties make it ideal for coated abrasives, precision grinding tools, and high-performance bonded abrasives.

Tilting Furnace Smelting

Known for finer crystal size and higher brittleness, this material undergoes precise crushing, screening, and demagnetization, resulting in:

  • Low magnetic content and impurity levels
  • Good self-sharpening behavior
  • Consistent particle uniformity and chemical stability

It is particularly suitable for abrasive tools, blasting media, and refractory materials.

Applications

The intrinsic properties of our brown fused alumina abrasive enable its widespread use across numerous industrial applications, including:

  • Abrasive Tool Manufacturing: It forms the fundamental material for producing high-performance grinding wheels, sanding belts, cutting discs, abrasive papers, and other bonded and coated abrasive products.
  • Sandblasting and Surface Preparation: An efficient and effective medium for cleaning, stripping, deburring, and surface profiling in various sandblasting operations.
  • Grinding and Polishing Operations: Essential for achieving desired surface finishes, material removal, and precision polishing across a wide spectrum of materials.
  • Refractory Materials: Due to its high melting point and chemical stability, it's a key component in the production of high-temperature resistant linings, crucibles, and other refractory components.
  • Wear-Resistant Applications: It enhances the durability and operational lifespan of components subjected to significant friction, erosion, and abrasion.
  • Anti-Slip Surfacing: Incorporated into floorings, steps, and other surfaces to improve traction and enhance safety.

With extensive industry experience and advanced technical capabilities, we deliver not just high-performance abrasives but also tailored solutions and reliable support. Contact us today to explore how our tailored solutions can precisely meet your abrasive needs.
