Zircoaluminates, one of the low-molecular weight inorganic polymers, represent a unique class of adhesion promoters which have high activity with various substrates. When zircoaluminates incorporated into coatings or adhesives, the inorganic part of the zircoaluminates is chemically attached to the metal matrix through oxygen and hydroxyl bridge, while the organic part of the zircoaluminates reacts with the resin during curing. Therefore, they can greatly promote the adhesion between the coating or adhesive and the metal material. In addition, they can improve the wet adhesion of coatings and reduce metal surface corrosion, thereby increasing the service life of solvent-based and water-based coatings.
