Hindered Amine Light Stabilizers (HALS)

In the global light stabilizer market, hindered amine light stabilizers (HALS) occupy the most important market share. HALS are effective additives used in a wide range of industries. They protect polymer materials from UV-induced degradation by scavenging free radicals generated by UV radiation. HALS help to extend the service life of polymer materials, so as to provide people with better quality products.

Hindered Amine Light Stabilizers (HALS)

Mechanism of Action

HALS are able to inhibit the photoaging process of polymers in several ways. First, they break down hydroperoxides (ROOH) and convert them into harmless substances. Secondly, HALS have strong free radical capture ability, which can neutralize and stabilize free radicals and prevent free radical-induced polymer chain breaking reactions. In addition, HALS have regenerative capabilities, i.e., they are able to regain their own stability after a free radical trapping reaction and thus continue to function.

Main Benefits

  • Prolong the service life of the polymer
  • Maintain the mechanical properties and appearance of the polymer
  • Reduce polymer yellowing, cracking and embrittlement
  • Enhance the durability of polymers in outdoor environments
