In most chemical mass and heat transfer processes, vapor is driven upward in the column by heat and pressure while liquid falls downward under the force of gravity. Random packing, as one of the 3 primary devices used in mass and heat transfer applications (the other 2 devices are structured packing and trays), has been traditionally used for absorption, stripping and fractionation operations in gas, refinery and chemical plants with well-established benefits for over 50 years. The random packings provide a cheaper and more efficient alternative to increase the tower's capacity and efficiency.
According to the materials, there are mainly 3 kinds of random packings, ceramic, plastic and metal random packings.
Compared with metal and plastic random packing, ceramic random packing is highly suitable for the conditions of higher temperature and lower temperature, and has higher resistance to chemical solvents, including organic acid, inorganic acid and solutions except the hydrofluoric acid.
Compared with ceramic and metal random packings, plastic random packings have lower specific gravity, thus they can offer higher capacity and lower pressure drop, and they can be used in corrosive applications with low to moderate operating temperature. Alfa Chemistry offers widest spectrum of plastic random packings mainly made of PE, PP, PVC, CPVC, RPP, PVDF, etc.
Metal random packings have higher temperature resistance than plastic packings and they can be used in some high temperature wet scrubbing and air stripping applications. Alfa Chemistry can offer metal random packings which are made of quality carbon steel, stainless steel (SS304, SS304L, SS410, SS316, SS316L, etc.) and others.
Alfa Chemistry offers an extensive catalog of random packings in a wide range of applications. Click on the headings above to find out more information of our random packings. To place an order or request a quote, please don't hesitate to contact us.
